“Empowering Your Spirit: Recognizing the Signs and Reclaiming Your Strength”

Though Satan may attempt to crush your spirit, remember that God has given you His Spirit, which empowers you to rise above the enemy’s attacks. Walk confidently in your calling, knowing that the One who is in you is greater than the one who is in the world (1 John 4:4).

“You are of God, little children, and have overcome them, because He who is in you is greater than he who is in the world.” 1 John 4:4

A mother who is weary yet trusting God.
God is greater than your problems.

Last year was a season of storms for my son and me, marked by deep struggles against trauma, anger, shame, and depression. It was a time when life felt like an uphill battle, with waves of pain crashing over us, threatening to drown us in despair.

For my son, the burden was heavy. He carried negative emotions that often exploded into anger and anxiety. It was as though he was trapped in a whirlwind of frustration, unable to find his footing. His heart, weighed down by past wounds and fears, sought peace but often found only chaos.

As his mother, I wanted so desperately to help him—to shield him from the storms and carry his pain if I could. But there were times when I stood in the same storm, struggling with my own anger, exhaustion, and weariness. The weight of the fight was heavy on both of us.

We had our battles—tears streaming down our faces, voices raised in frustration, and hearts breaking with the ache of misunderstanding. There were moments when it felt like we were at odds, as if the pain we were fighting against had turned us into enemies rather than allies.

There were nights of yelling, of doors closing too hard, and silences that spoke louder than words. The house seemed filled with tension, and the walls bore witness to our struggle. At times, we both felt like giving up, wondering if the fight was even worth it.

And yet, even in the darkest moments, there was a flicker of hope—a small, stubborn flame that refused to be extinguished.

We began to realize that though we were struggling; we were also healing, slowly but surely. The fights, though painful, were evidence of our love for each other, of our refusal to give up on one another. The tears we shed together were not just signs of brokenness, but also the start of cleansing and renewal.

Over time, we started to name our pain, to understand its roots. We began to learn that anger was a mask for deeper emotions—hurt, fear, shame. Little by little, we started to rebuild.

We leaned on prayer, on God’s promises, and on moments of grace that reminded us we were not alone. We sought healing not only for ourselves but also for our relationship. Conversations replaced yelling. Understanding replaced judgment. And where there had been walls between us, we built bridges instead.

Recognizing the Signs

I kept praying to God, seeking His wisdom and discernment for what to do. Slowly, He showed me how to recognize the enemy’s tactics and how to fight back against the darkness that had dragged my son into distress.

I fought against my own weary thoughts and impatient heart by quoting Scripture and praying fervently. But there were moments when my son, overwhelmed by his emotions, would lash out, yelling as though the enemy’s spirit was using his pain to fight against the Spirit of God within our home. In those moments, I didn’t see my son as the source of the anger—I saw the battle between light and darkness.

I refused to back down. With unwavering faith, I recited Scriptures aloud, declaring God’s truth with authority in the name of Jesus. I prayed more fervently, speaking life and peace into the storm that raged around us. Even as my son was triggered, I persevered, refusing to let the enemy have the final word.

Through it all, I held my son tightly, wrapping him in my arms as I continued to pray and speak the name of Jesus over him. I declared the authority of Christ out loud, proclaiming boldly, “There is power in the name of Jesus.”

Little by little, I saw my son begin to calm down. The storm within him subsided as God’s peace filled the space we were in. It wasn’t just my strength—it was the power of the Holy Spirit working through prayer, Scripture, and the authority of Christ.

This battle reminded me that the enemy cannot stand against the name of Jesus. And so, I keep fighting in faith, knowing that God is greater, and His victory is sure. The cycle went on for weeks and months, draining my strength and leaving me feeling almost hopeless. In the depths of my weariness, the Spirit of God gently whispered to me, reminding me that there was still hope—encouraging me to fight the good fight of faith.

But one day, the weight of it all became too much. As I shared in my other blog, Genuine Devotion,” I reached a breaking point. Overwhelmed with anger and sorrow, I cried out to God, tears streaming down my face, and asked, “Why? Why would You allow this to happen to me and my son again? I’ve tried to live for You. I’ve tried my best to serve You. Why, Lord?”

I poured out my heart to Him in raw honesty, questioning and wrestling with the pain. And in that moment, something shifted. It was as though the heavens opened, and God’s power intervened. God snapped the chains that had bound us for so long, ending the cycle of struggle.

By the time summer came, we breathed a little easier. The storms hadn’t entirely disappeared, but we had learned to weather them together. We discovered strength in our vulnerability and healing in our honesty. Most importantly, we found that God’s grace was sufficient for every moment of weakness.

Looking back, I see God was working, even in my cries of desperation. He had not abandoned us. Instead, He used that breaking point to bring breakthrough. The battle was fierce, but His victory was greater.

Today, when I look back on that hard season, I see not just the pain but also the beauty of our journey. It was a time of refining—a time when God took our brokenness and began to create something new and beautiful from it.

Reclaim Your Strength

Remember this: when Jesus proves Himself to you and shows that He can do it, don’t doubt Him. Stand firm and refuse to let the enemy win. Satan has no authority over you. Jesus has already demonstrated the power of His authority over the enemy—both in my life and in my family. Trust in His power and victory, for He is faithful.

“No weapon formed against you shall prosper, And every tongue which rises against you in judgment You shall condemn. This is the heritage of the servants of the Lord, And their righteousness is from Me,” Says the LORD. “ Isaiah 54:17, NKJV

During my son’s baptism last Easter Sunday, I was overwhelmed with emotion as I reflected on our journey through so many struggles. In that moment, God placed a Scripture on my heart for my son: Isaiah 54:17—“No weapon formed against you shall prosper.” It was a powerful reminder of God’s protection and faithfulness over his life.
